Rufta Ltd is a family-run business proudly based in Newport City, South Wales. We are the first company in the United Kingdom to locally manufacture and distribute Berbere a traditional, spicy chili powder highly valued by diverse communities.
Recognising an unmet demand for high-quality Berbere, we conducted extensive research over several years, carefully studying both the supply and consumption patterns across the UK. Our findings confirmed that Berbere is a staple ingredient in many households, yet the market was served only by a few small-scale suppliers. Inspired by this opportunity, we committed ourselves to delivering a premium, authentic product to meet this growing need.

BERBERE
Rufta Ltd has been established to produce a well-known traditional spicy powder called Berbere.
Berbere is a classic blend of natural spices, designed to deliver heat and rich flavour. It is a hot spice widely used in the preparation of various delicious Ethiopian and Eritrean dishes, and it also features prominently in the cuisines of other East African countries. Just a teaspoon of Berbere can add incredible depth to vegetarian dishes such as lentil stews, roasted vegetables, and hearty bean soups.
Berbere can be used either as a dry spice mix or blended with essential ingredients, including chili peppers, coriander, black pepper, dried onions, garlic, ginger, basil seeds, cardamom, rue, ajwain, nigella seeds, and fenugreek.
Rufta Ltd imports dried red peppers, legumes, spices, and herbs directly from Ethiopia and Latin America. These raw ingredients are then processed, packaged, and distributed from our UK-based facility. Our products are offered at reasonable prices and available in a range of packaging sizes to suit different needs.
Our production unit is equipped with modern grinding machines and equipment, operating under a robust food safety management system to ensure consistently high production standards and quality.
